About Kabukicho (Shinjuku)

Kabukicho (歌舞伎町), just north-east of Shinjuku Station, is Tokyo’s biggest nightlife district — neon signs, the Godzilla head on the Hotel Gracery, izakaya, karaoke and countless bars. It’s also home to many bar-style concept cafés and girls bars that stay open until late night or early morning.

  • Access: about 5 minutes on foot from the East Exit of JR Shinjuku Station, and 2 minutes from Seibu-Shinjuku Station
  • Best time: from around 8 pm until the last train (around midnight); many places stay open much later
  • Be careful: street touts (キャッチ) are common. Street soliciting is prohibited — don’t follow them, and walk into places you chose yourself
