Privacy Policy

This is a reference translation. The Japanese version is the official text. Kawaii Check (“we”) handles personal information on Kawaii Check (“the site”) in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan and other laws, as follows.

1. Information we collect

  • Reviews: nickname, ratings, review text, photos (shrunk before sending, with location and other camera data removed), month of visit, time spent, amount paid, your IP address at the time of posting (stored only as an encrypted value; we do not store the original IP address), and browser type (user agent)
  • Contact and removal requests: your message, any email address or social media account you enter for a reply, and your IP address (encrypted value)
  • Access information: access logs recorded automatically by the server (IP address, pages viewed, date and time, etc.) and your browser’s language setting, used to choose the display language
  • Shop page views and clicks on links to a shop’s website, social media or map: we count only totals per shop, date and display language. No cookies are used and no IP address or other identifying information is stored (used to report listing results to shops)

Only if you agree, we use Google Analytics to collect usage information such as pages viewed, time spent, approximate region, and device and browser type (see section 6). We do not use cookies or tracking for advertising, and there are no user accounts.

2. How we use it

  • To review reviews and publish them on the site, including translating them into other languages
  • To prevent abuse such as repeated posting or impersonation
  • To respond to inquiries and removal requests
  • To respond to disclosure requests made under law
  • To operate, maintain and secure the site

3. What is made public

After review, the nickname, ratings, text, photos, month of visit, time spent and amount paid of a review are published on the site and shown in translation in other languages. IP addresses, browser type and contact messages are never published.

4. Service providers (including transfers outside Japan)

We use the following services to run the site and entrust them with handling information as needed:

  • Vercel Inc. (USA): hosting and delivery of the site, including access logs
  • Supabase Inc. (USA; data stored in the Tokyo region): storage of reviews and inquiries
  • Anthropic, PBC (USA): automatic translation of reviews and shop information. Review text is sent; IP addresses and contact messages are not.
  • Google LLC (USA): site analytics with Google Analytics. Only if you agree, pages viewed, a cookie identifier, your IP address and device/browser information are sent to Google.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. (USA): bot protection with Cloudflare Turnstile. When you open the review or contact form, information such as your IP address and browser details is sent to Cloudflare.

The USA does not have a personal information protection system equivalent to Japan’s, but each company manages information under its own privacy policy and terms. Except as required by law, we do not provide personal information to third parties without your consent.

5. Retention and security

We keep information only as long as needed for these purposes and delete it when no longer needed. IP addresses are stored only as encrypted values. The admin area is password-protected and accessible only to us.

6. Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand and improve how the site is used. Google Analytics cookies (such as _ga) are used only if you choose “Accept” in the notice at the bottom of the screen, and not if you choose “Decline”. Your choice is saved in your browser; if you clear your browser’s site data, we will ask again. For how Google uses data, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also stop analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). When you post a review, we also store a cookie (kc_reviewer: a random identifier with no personal details, kept for 2 years) so we can count your reviews and give reviewer badges. It is not stored if you don’t post. We also use a cookie for our own login to the admin area.

7. Your requests

If you ask us to notify you of the purpose of use, or to disclose, correct, add to, delete, stop using, or stop providing to third parties your personal data, we will respond without delay as required by law after confirming your identity. 8. Changes

We may update this policy as needed. Changes take effect when posted on this page.
